Qualifications and Experience:
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter and proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience in school environments or with K–12 students preferred
- Ability to interpret spoken language to sign and vice versa with accuracy, clarity, and sensitivity
- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities to foster a positive learning atmosphere
- Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate evolving classroom needs
- Familiarity with confidentiality practices in educational or student-centered settings
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide in-person sign language interpretation for students, supporting their academic and social participation throughout the school day
- Interpret classroom instruction, group activities, and school events, facilitating seamless communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Collaborate with educators, support staff, and administrators to uphold student accessibility and contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals if necessary
- Foster a welcoming, respectful environment and serve as a positive role model for inclusivity
