In this dynamic, contract-based role, you'll work closely with Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners, ensuring their seamless access to all aspects of the academic experience. Your expertise will empower students to fully participate in classroom discussions, assemblies, and extracurricular activities, serving as a vital bridge between spoken English and sign language.
What We're Looking For:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and interpreting between ASL and English in academic settings
- Experience supporting students across elementary, middle, and high school environments, particularly in one-on-one (1:1) roles
- Strong familiarity with pediatric interpreting and the unique needs of school-aged learners
- High value placed on candidates with an EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.5 or above
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to partner with educators, staff, and families
- Professionalism and adaptability in classroom and group settings
Primary Responsibilities:
- Facilitate communication for DHH (Deaf/Hard of Hearing) students in all school contexts, including classes and extracurricular events
- Interpret spoken language to sign and vice versa to promote full understanding and participation
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure instructional goals are accessible
- Support individual students’ unique learning needs and advocate for inclusion
- Uphold best practices in confidentiality, ethics, and professional standards
