Sign Language Interpreter in Cape Coral, FL
Make a difference each day by supporting DHH students in an engaging elementary school environment in the Fort Myers area. This contract role offers the chance to work exclusively on-site at a single elementary school, providing dedicated interpretation and communication support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, both one-on-one and in group settings.
Your fluency in American Sign Language and professionalism will play a vital role in fostering inclusion and accessibility. The position begins August 11, 2026, and continues through the end of May 2027, with a commitment of up to 37.5 hours a week during the school year.
Your background should include:
- A 3.0 or higher EIPA score
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in school settings
- Understanding of age-appropriate communication for elementary students
- Familiarity with privacy, ethics, and professional standards in educational environments
- Ability to travel on-site each day; this is not a virtual assignment
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing real-time sign language interpretation for classroom and school activities
- Supporting DHH students individually and within group contexts
- Collaborating with teachers, staff, and specialists to ensure full access to educational content
- Adjusting communication styles to meet the developmental level of students
- Upholding confidentiality and school district protocols at all times
Candidates must complete fingerprinting for credentialing. If you’ve worked in Florida schools before and your prints are available through the AHCA Clearinghouse, that may expedite the process.
