This position is perfect for skilled Sign Language Interpreters who are eager to work closely with hard of hearing and deaf students, classroom teachers, and school staff to create an inclusive, accessible learning environment.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language, with the ability to provide both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting.
- Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, or a score of 4.0 or above on the EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessments.
- Candidates with EIPA scores under 4.0 will be considered and referred to as ASL Paraeducators.
- Experience assisting students with academic subjects and supporting development in vocational or daily living skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with students, teachers, and peers.
- Ability to work onsite for approximately 30 hours per week in elementary and intermediate school settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate seamless communication between hard of hearing/deaf students, hearing peers, and educational staff.
- Support students’ understanding and participation in academic work—reading, writing, math—within the classroom environment.
- Monitor and assist students during classroom, outdoor, and community activities.
- Adapt approach according to student needs and school grade level (elementary or intermediate).
- Maintain professionalism and uphold ethical standards as a representative of the interpreting discipline.
