Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Chico, CA

Bring your expertise in sign language to an educational environment where your skills can impact students’ lives each day. This contract opportunity is based onsite in a school setting, supporting hard of hearing and deaf students. You’ll work closely with students, teachers, and staff to foster communication and facilitate academic and social inclusion.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proficiency in sign language interpretation (Sign to Voice and Voice to Sign)
- Certification from the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, or a score of 4.0+ on EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessments
- Candidates with EIPA scores under 4.0 are welcome to apply (recognized in the role as ASL Para)
- Background in educational settings preferred—elementary and/or intermediate experience a plus
- Ability to assist students with academic work (reading, writing, math) and real-life skills
- Strong interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration with students and educational staff
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and fostering inclusivity in the classroom
Role Responsibilities:
- Interpret communication between deaf/hard of hearing students, their peers, and school staff
- Support academic and vocational learning in both classroom and community settings
- Monitor students during classroom, outdoor, or community activities
- Collaborate with educators to ensure each student’s success and integration
- Adapt interpreting approach to match each student’s learning style and needs
This is a full-time position (approx. 30 hours/week) with flexible preference for elementary or intermediate grade levels. You’ll be supported in your role with resources dedicated to ensuring positive outcomes for students.
