Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Chico, California
Make an impact supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing in an educational setting. This full-time contract opportunity is open to skilled Sign Language Interpreters ready to facilitate classroom communication and contribute to student achievement. Positions are available for elementary and intermediate schools, and your preference for age group can be considered. This onsite-only role is set for approximately 30 hours per week (6 hours per day), with a continuing need throughout the academic year.
Key Qualifications:
- Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, or an EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessment score of 4.0 or above
- Client will consider candidates with EIPA below 4.0 for an ASL Para position
- Strong command of American Sign Language and English; adept at both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and school personnel
- Experience working with children in educational settings is highly valued
Main Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction and interactions between deaf/hard of hearing students and others
- Support students in a range of academic subjects and daily living/vocational skills
- Assist the classroom teacher with differentiated instructional needs
- Monitor and assist students during classroom activities and offsite excursions
- Maintain professional standards of confidentiality and conduct at all times
