As an integral member of the educational team, you will facilitate communication between students, staff, and families using American Sign Language (ASL), ensuring equal access to information and instruction.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter, such as passing the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), or an equivalent assessment, with a score of 4.0 or higher
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- Strong understanding of educational environments and the unique needs of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with students, staff, and administrators
- Flexibility to work part-time or full-time schedules as determined by site needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, presentations, and school events for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to promote student engagement and comprehension
- Maintain confidentiality in all student matters, upholding professional ethical standards
- Assist with classroom activities, supporting student participation in both academic and social aspects of school life
- Adapt interpreting techniques to match student age, comprehension, and learning needs
The available positions range from about 6.25 to 7.25 hours per day, depending on assignment. This role offers a contract-based opportunity to make a tangible difference in students’ daily experiences and educational outcomes.
