Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Converse, Texas

Step into a rewarding educational environment supporting students from Pre-K through 8th grade as a Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time, on-site contract opportunity is essential in facilitating clear communication and ensuring equal access to classroom learning for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Start as soon as credentialing is complete and continue through the end of the academic year, working 37.5 hours per week at a single campus. You’ll collaborate closely with classroom teachers, school staff, and fellow interpreters while adapting your approach to support varied classroom needs and learning styles.
Qualifications & Required Experience:
- Current certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (BEI I, II [previous system], or Basic [current system]).
- Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and the ability to interpret educational material at elementary and middle school levels.
- Experience in school settings or with students (ages PK-8) is highly preferred.
- Ability to satisfy district-mandated fingerprinting and background check requirements.
- Flexibility, professionalism, and a compassionate approach to diverse learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate sign language interpretation in classrooms, small-group learning, and school events.
- Foster student inclusion and active participation in all aspects of school life.
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and parents regarding interpreting best practices and individualized needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all professional codes of conduct applicable to school-based interpreters.
- Participate in pre-service interviews and orientation as needed.
