Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and fluency in both receptive and expressive interpreting
- Prior experience interpreting in educational settings, ideally with middle or elementary school students
- RID certification or equivalent credentials in sign language interpreting preferred
- Ability to adapt communication to various age groups and learning needs
- Strong organizational and collaborative skills with teaching staff and special education teams
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, group discussions, and one-on-one interactions between students, teachers, and peers
- Ensure accurate and culturally appropriate communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students throughout the school day
- Assist in translating educational materials or notes as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
- Serve as a resource to faculty and support staff on best practices for working with Deaf students
