Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong interpreting skills
- Experience providing interpretation services in a K-12 school setting preferred
- Familiarity with elementary or middle school curriculum and classroom routines
- Ability to adhere to confidentiality protocols and demonstrate cultural sensitivity
- RID certification or equivalent highly desirable
- Patience, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit
Core Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) for students during classroom instruction and school activities
- Work closely with teachers, staff, and families to meet each student’s communication needs
- Support students by interpreting assignments, discussions, assemblies, and extracurricular events as assigned
- Contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings when necessary
- Assist in promoting an accessible and supportive learning environment
- Maintain professionalism, uphold ethical interpreting standards, and keep detailed documentation if required
