Key Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter in North Carolina.
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and understanding of Deaf culture.
- Prior experience working in school settings with students requiring sign language interpreting is preferred.
- Ability to collaborate closely with teachers, staff, students, and families.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to onsite attendance throughout the specified contract period.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpreting for students in school, classrooms, assemblies, and extracurricular activities.
- Facilitate clear communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers and instructors.
- Support educational access by interpreting curriculum, teacher instructions, and classroom discussions.
- Adapt interpreting techniques to the needs of individual students and the educational environment.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all communications.
- Participate in IEP meetings, staff discussions, and relevant training sessions.
