Step into a meaningful role supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming school year. This full-time, contract opportunity runs from August 10, 2026, through May 27, 2027, with a schedule of 7.5 hours per day, 37.5 hours per week. You'll work onsite with a specific caseload, providing direct communication access to learners and collaborating with educational teams to ensure every student thrives.
Key Qualifications:
- Current licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter in North Carolina
- Experienced in educational settings, preferably partnering with K-12 students
- Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and comfortable facilitating communication in a school environment
- Strong understanding of confidentiality standards and student privacy
- Professional, reliable, and dedicated to supporting student success
- Ready and able to work onsite for the duration of the assignment
- Excellent interpersonal skills; able to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families
- Knowledge of IEP (Individualized Education Program) processes and experience working with varying levels of hearing ability is a plus
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation for students who are deaf or hard of hearing within classroom and school-related activities
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers
- Support inclusive classroom participation and encourage student engagement
- Prepare for instructional content to accurately interpret complex concepts and discussions
- Maintain records in accordance with school policies and ensure compliance with district guidelines
- Collaborate with educators and specialists on student goals and progress
