Step into a rewarding role supporting elementary students as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter in the Fort Myers, FL area. This full-time, on-site contract opportunity runs from August 11, 2026, through May 27, 2027, and offers a chance to make a lasting difference in the lives of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students within an inclusive school community.
As the primary interpreter at a single elementary school, you'll work closely with young learners, providing both one-on-one and small group support as needed. Collaborate with educational teams to ensure accessibility and improve student outcomes in a dynamic, supportive environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid and current licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter
- 3.0 EIPA score or higher required
- Previous school-based or pediatric interpreting experience preferred
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and accessibility in educational settings
- Ability to work on-site (not open to virtual assignments)
- Must complete FL fingerprinting (status via AHCA Clearinghouse considered) and obtain a JLA badge
Core Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, conversations, and school events for DHH students
- Provide both one-to-one and group interpreting as assigned by school staff
- Foster positive relationships with students and staff to promote inclusion
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in educational interpreting
- Collaborate with teachers and specialists to tailor interpreting approaches to individual student needs
