Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience providing sign language interpretation in school settings preferred
- Familiarity with educational terminology and classroom routines
- Ability to interpret complex classroom instruction in real-time
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Certification or credentials in Sign Language Interpretation (as required by state and local guidelines)
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary interpreter for a 3rd grade student during all classroom instruction time
- Accurately interpret spoken English into ASL and vice versa to facilitate understanding between the student, peers, and staff
- Partner with educators to ensure translation of lesson plans, activities, and class discussions
- Support the student’s participation in classroom activities and encourage independence
- Provide clear, timely communication of both spoken and signed content
- Maintain ethical interpreting standards in educational environments
