Support the educational journey of students who are deaf or hard of hearing by facilitating effective communication in a dynamic school environment. This contract position offers the opportunity to work onsite full-time, approximately 30 hours per week (6 hours per day), with assignments available for elementary and intermediate schools based on candidate preference. The role ensures that every student has equal access to learning, social experiences, and involvement in the classroom community.
Key Qualifications:
- Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, or a score of 4.0 or above on the EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessments
- Candidates with an EIPA under 4.0 will be considered and classified as an ASL Para
- Proficiency in both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation
- Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and staff
- Capability to assist students academically and in functional life skills
- Experience in elementary and/or intermediate (middle) school settings is beneficial
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation to facilitate classroom communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their hearing peers and teachers
- Assist students in academic subjects such as reading, writing, and math
- Support students with vocational and daily living skills as needed
- Supervise students during both classroom and community activities, ensuring engagement and safety
- Contribute to an inclusive classroom environment
