This contract role allows you to make a direct impact as a Sign Language Interpreter, providing essential communication support and fostering academic progress. The position is onsite, focused on facilitating accessible learning and engagement for a student who actively participates in school life—including theater and challenging coursework like Algebra I.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Previous experience working in an educational setting, preferably with high school students
- Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Ability to collaborate with teachers and other educational staff
- Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction and school activities for a 9th-grade student
- Work one-on-one on Fridays for 6.5 hours to ensure full participation in academic and extracurricular activities
- Support the student’s communication with both peers and educators, reinforcing their social and academic growth
- Facilitate understanding of assignments, tests, and lectures, with particular attention to areas such as Algebra I
- Collaborate closely with teachers who utilize hearing assistance technologies (e.g., Cochlear Implant, ALD)
- Encourage the student’s autonomy and active involvement in the school community
