Make a rewarding impact working as a part-time Sign Language Interpreter, supporting a high school student in the Houston area. This contract opportunity focuses on facilitating communication and learning for a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classroom setting. As a key member of the educational team, you’ll play a critical role in the student’s academic journey by providing interpretive services during instructional hours. Scheduled for Fridays only—with the possibility of additional sub opportunities—this job share complements another facilitator working Monday through Thursday.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience interpreting in educational settings.
- Understanding of assistive hearing technology, such as cochlear implants, hearing aids, and ALD devices.
- Ability to create a supportive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
- Professional credentials or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (please provide proof).
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with teachers and school staff.
- Prior experience working with students with unique behavioral or communication needs is a plus.
Role Highlights:
- Provide ASL interpretation to a 9th-grade student during classroom instruction on Fridays (approx. 6.5 hours per day).
- Collaborate with another language facilitator to ensure seamless support throughout the week.
- Substitute as needed if the primary facilitator is absent.
- Foster an engaging and accessible learning environment, accommodating the student’s evolving communication preferences and technology use.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all student interactions.
