Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL); certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred
- Experience working within PreK-12 school settings, especially in high school
- Ability to build rapport with students and collaborate with teachers, specialists, and staff
- Understanding of or willingness to learn about individualized student needs beyond communication
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical interpreting practices
- Adaptability, patience, and a student-focused mindset
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, on-site sign language interpreting services to a 12th-grade student throughout the school day
- Support the student’s access to classroom instruction, discussions, and extracurricular activities
- Assist team members in planning strategies to address the student’s broader academic, social, and functional needs
- Work in coordination with educators and service providers to facilitate inclusion and participation
- Monitor and document student progress, adapting support as necessary
