Are you an Educational Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) looking for an incredible travel assignment in the Last Frontier? We have two open 1:1 travel positions in beautiful Kenai, Alaska for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Positioned along the famous Kenai River, this destination offers world-class outdoor recreation—from world-famous salmon fishing and mountain hiking to stunning views of Cook Inlet—all while providing high-impact 1:1 educational support to a local student.
Position Details & Student Placements
We are hiring for two dedicated, full-time positions:
Placement 1 (Upper Elementary): 1:1 Sign Language Interpreter facilitating classroom instruction, peer interactions, and daily activities for an upper elementary student.
Placement 2 (Middle School): 1:1 Sign Language Interpreter supporting a middle school student across core academic subjects, electives, and school events.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality, expressive, and receptive American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation (1:1) in all educational settings.
Facilitate clear communication between the student, general education teachers, special education staff, and peers.
Adapt interpretation strategies to match the student’s language age and Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
Maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards in accordance with the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
Qualifications & Requirements
Certification / Credentials:
EIPA score of 3.0+ (or state required minimum) OR RID / NIC / NAD certification.
Eligibility for Alaska Department of Education credentialing.
Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Sign Language Interpreting, ASL Studies, or a related field.
Experience: Previous K-12 educational interpreting experience is highly preferred.
Traveler Mindset: Adaptable, independent, and excited to live and work in coastal Alaska.
