Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and comprehensive interpreting skills
- Experience working within educational settings, preferably with high school students
- Knowledge of classroom protocols and educational accommodations for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to facilitate communication
- Professional certification as a sign language interpreter (national or state-level preferred)
- Sensitivity, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills
Core Duties:
- Provide direct interpreting services for two high school students across academic, extracurricular, and school events
- Accurately translate spoken language into ASL and vice versa to promote effective access to instruction and peer interaction
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpreting within school settings
- Support students in developing self-advocacy skills and confidence in classroom participation
- Partner with education teams to adapt communication methods as student needs evolve
