Step into a rewarding contract opportunity providing essential support as a Sign Language Interpreter within an elementary school setting. This on-site role is based at an elementary campus in the vibrant Fort Myers area and spans the full academic year, from August 11th, 2026 to May 27th, 2027. You’ll work directly with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students, offering both 1:1 and group interpreting in classroom environments.
Ideal candidates are passionate about facilitating inclusive educational experiences and have a strong command of ASL interpreting in a school context. As a trusted interpreter, you’ll bridge communication and ensure that students engage fully in their education and campus life.
Qualifications:
- Minimum score of 3.0 or higher on the EIPA required
- Demonstrated experience supporting DHH students in educational settings
- Proficiency in American Sign Language
- Up-to-date fingerprinting through the AHCA Clearinghouse; if you possess prior valid prints, the transition will be expedited
- Willingness to obtain a JLA badge (may take up to 10 business days post-clearance)
- Professionalism, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with teachers and staff
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities for DHH students
- Provide individualized interpreting support and facilitate group interactions
- Collaborate closely with special education teams to adapt interpreting for various learning needs
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpreting in educational settings
- Support teachers and staff in understanding and using strategies for DHH inclusion
