Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Madison, AL
Step into a vital role supporting student access to education as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) on a dedicated 1:1 assignment. Embedded within a vibrant elementary school environment, you’ll work directly with a student throughout the school day, facilitating clear communication and fostering engagement. This school-based opportunity runs from ASAP through May 28, 2027, during regular school hours (8:00 AM – 2:30 PM) for a total of 40 hours each week. Reliable attendance and the ability to commit to the full school schedule are essential, as late arrivals, early departures, or modified hours cannot be accommodated.
Qualifications:
• Active Alabama SLI/Interpreter license or permit
• Recognized interpreting certification (RID, EIPA, BEI, etc.) preferred
• Experience in a school-based setting highly valued
• Background in 1:1 student support preferred
• Consistent, dependable workplace attendance
• Collaborative approach and excellent communication skills
• Ability to begin ASAP and commit through May 2027
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide accurate and effective sign language interpretation for a student during all aspects of the school day
• Support instructional access, participation, and inclusion
• Work closely with educators, staff, and the educational team to maximize student success
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
• Adapt interpreting strategies to student needs
• Foster a supportive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
