Key Qualifications:

  • Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf or an EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI score of 4.0 or higher
  • Candidates with EIPA scores under 4.0 welcome (will serve as ASL Paraeducators)
  • Proficient in both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting
  • Experience supporting students in elementary and intermediate school preferred
  • Comfortable assisting in academic subjects and vocational/life skills
  • Collaborative approach to supporting students, teachers, and school personnel

Role Responsibilities:

  • Enable communication between deaf/hard of hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff
  • Interpret spoken and signed messages accurately and confidentially
  • Support students across academic and adaptive subjects such as reading, writing, math, and independent living
  • Monitor and encourage participation during classroom and community-based activities
  • Adapt interpreting strategies to effectively support learning and engagement in various educational settings
