Key Qualifications:
- Current South Carolina SLI license (required)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and interpretation strategies for educational settings
- Prior experience in schools or with pediatric populations is preferred
- Familiarity with district or state-specific standards for interpreters
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility in adapting to changing schedules and student needs
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken communication into sign language during classroom instruction, meetings, and campus events
- Facilitate direct communication between deaf/hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff
- Support students’ educational and social integration according to their IEPs and communication preferences
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards for interpreters in educational settings
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to meet student goals
