Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and relevant interpreting skills, with experience in educational settings preferred
- Completion of at least two years of college (minimum 72 academic credits), an Associate’s degree or higher, or successful passage of the Highly Qualified exam
- Ability to adapt language and interpreting to varied classroom settings and student needs
- Strong sense of confidentiality, professionalism, and reliability
- Collaborative skills to partner with faculty, administrators, and families
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for middle school students during instructional periods, school assemblies, and extracurricular activities
- Facilitate communication between students who are Deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and staff
- Interpret various subject matters, adapting to educational language and content
- Maintain ethical standards of practice and ensure student privacy at all times
- Assist with clarification and reinforcement of information as directed by educational staff
