Educational Sign Language Interpreter - New Brockton, AL

Desired Experience & Qualifications:
- Valid national certification (such as EIPA, RID, or NIC) or relevant state credentials for interpreting in educational settings
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and speech-to-sign/sign-to-speech interpreting
- Experience providing interpretation services in schools preferred, but not required
- Ability to interpret in one-on-one, small-group, and large-group educational contexts
- Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to the needs of students with diverse learning styles
- Excellent organizational skills, punctuality, and the ability to work independently as well as part of an educational team
Responsibilities:
- Interpret lessons, instructions, student discussions, and extracurricular activities using ASL
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers
- Maintain confidentiality, impartiality, and adhere to the professional code of ethics for interpreters
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure student comprehension and participation
- Assist with IEP meetings, parent conferences, and other school-related functions as needed
- Support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth by promoting self-advocacy and independence
