Key Experience and Skills:
- National or state certification in Sign Language Interpretation (e.g., RID, EIPA, or equivalent)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required
- Experience supporting elementary-aged children in academic settings is a plus
- Ability to interpret in educational environments, adapting to classroom dynamics
- Professionalism, reliability, and sensitivity to student confidentiality and needs
- Comfortable working 1:1 with students and collaborating with educators
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation services for a single elementary student throughout the school day
- Accurately convey spoken communication and classroom instructions between teachers, peers, and the student
- Support the student’s participation in all classroom and school activities
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and special education teams to create an inclusive learning experience
- Maintain ethical standards, respecting privacy and promoting student empowerment
