Step into an impactful role supporting student success as a Sign Language Interpreter in a vibrant elementary school setting. This full-time contract position provides dedicated 1:1 interpreting support for a student throughout the academic day, fostering communication and inclusion within the classroom. The assignment runs from now through May 28, 2027, aligning with the school year and requiring presence for the entire school schedule—8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
What We’re Looking For:
- Current Alabama SLI/Interpreter license or permit (required)
- Recognized interpreting certification preferred (RID, EIPA, BEI, etc.)
- Experience in school-based interpreting environments valued
- Previous background in 1:1 student interpreting support highly desirable
- Proven reliability and ability to commit to full assignment duration
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while forming supportive relationships
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
Responsibilities Include:
- Providing accurate 1:1 sign language interpreting throughout the school day
- Facilitating communication between student, peers, and educational staff
- Collaborating as part of the educational team to ensure optimal access to learning
- Adhering to the full school schedule without late arrivals, early departures, or modified shifts
- Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to professional ethical standards
- Documenting services as required by school policy
