Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Paradise, California

Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing in vibrant educational settings near Paradise, CA. This full-time position—approximately 30 hours per week across elementary and intermediate classrooms—plays a vital role in facilitating communication and fostering inclusive learning environments. You'll work on-site, collaborating closely with students, teachers, and other school personnel to help bridge language barriers and support academic and social growth.
Qualifications:
- Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf, or an EIPA score of 4.0 or above, the ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessment
- Candidates with an EIPA below 4.0 are encouraged to apply (will be considered for ASL Paraeducator roles)
- Experience facilitating sign to voice, and voice to sign interpretation
- Ability to assist students in academic areas such as reading, writing, and math
- Adept at working across age groups and classroom settings
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate interpretation between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English
- Support instructional activities, including assisting students with academic content and life skills
- Foster understanding and communication between students, their peers, and school staff
- Monitor and assist students during classroom, outdoor, and community based activities
- Help create a supportive learning space and adapt communication for varied proficiency levels
