Make a meaningful impact supporting students who are Deaf or hard of hearing through a contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter for the 2026-2027 school year. In this essential role, you will facilitate communication between students, staff, and peers, helping to create an inclusive, accessible classroom environment for all.

This full-time contract runs from August 10, 2026, to May 27, 2027. You’ll be working onsite for 37.5 hours per week, with a focused caseload for direct student support. Your expertise will directly support one-on-one educational interpretation needs, promoting academic success and fostering social engagement.

Qualifications and Experience Needed:

  • Valid certification/licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter in North Carolina
  • Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledgeable in interpreting within a school environment
  • Experience supporting students in K-12 educational settings (preferred)
  • Ability to work onsite – remote or hybrid options are not available
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adaptable to classroom routines

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language during classroom instruction and school activities
  • Assist teachers and staff in modifying communication for accessibility and clarity
  • Ensure confidentiality and professionalism in all student interactions
  • Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with educational teams
  • Facilitate positive student engagement in both instructional and social settings
