Required Skills & Qualifications:
- EIPA score of 3.0 or higher (required)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and expert-level interpreting skills in educational settings
- Prior experience as a sign language interpreter in schools, preferably at the elementary level
- Comprehensive understanding of Deaf culture and best practices for accessible communication
- Ability to adapt interpreting style to meet student needs and classroom dynamics
- Commitment to professionalism, confidentiality, and collaboration with faculty and families
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately interpret spoken communication into sign language for students during classroom instruction and school activities
- Facilitate communication between students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, peers, teachers, and staff
- Prepare for assignments by reviewing lesson content and collaborating with educators to ensure instructional clarity
- Support student participation in classroom discussions, group work, and special events
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all school district policies and regulations
- Contribute to a positive, accessible, and inclusive learning environment
This contract position begins as soon as possible and continues through May 20, 2027, with consistent hours from 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM each school day. The role is based entirely onsite, providing direct engagement with students and staff throughout the academic year.
