Bring your expertise in sign language interpretation to support students from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade at a vibrant educational setting near Schertz, TX. This full-time, on-site contract role allows you to make a meaningful impact in a single school environment throughout the academic year.
Primary Qualifications:
- Valid certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or the Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (BEI I or II under the previous system, Basic under the current system)
- Experience interpreting for diverse age groups, ideally in educational settings
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Ability to provide clear communication access in both classroom and campus environments
- Completion of district-specific fingerprinting and background check prior to start
- Preparedness for a preliminary "prescreen" interview to assess suitability for the school setting
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver real-time American Sign Language interpretation between students, staff, and peers
- Support instructional needs for a caseload with a student group to be determined (PK-8)
- Foster an inclusive and accessible academic environment that empowers student engagement
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
- Collaborate with educators, therapists, and support staff to create a positive learning experience
This contract begins as soon as possible and continues through late May 2027, with a consistent weekly schedule totaling 37.5 hours at a single campus. You’ll play a vital part in breaking down communication barriers and championing student success.
