Make a difference as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting a 9th grade student in a behavioral classroom environment. In this contract position, you'll help facilitate learning and communication for a student who uses cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an assistive listening device, and is transitioning back after time at a Residential Day School Program. You'll be providing American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation during instructional times only, allowing for focused interaction where it matters most. This role is part-time, with hours scheduled on Fridays and occasional opportunities to substitute.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Relevant certification or proof of licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter or Language Facilitator
- Experience working in educational or school-based settings, especially with high school students
- Comfortable working in behavioral classroom environments
- Knowledge of assistive technology such as cochlear implants and hearing aids is a plus
- Ability to collaborate with another facilitator for job-sharing responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality interpretation services for a 9th grade student during instructional periods
- Foster an inclusive educational environment by bridging communication between the student, peers, and staff
- Adapt to classroom dynamics, supporting a student with multiple assistive listening devices
- Maintain professional documentation as required by the school or district
- Coordinate and communicate with your fellow language facilitator for continuous student support
