Educational Sign Language Interpreter - Tacoma, Washington

Desired Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings preferred
- Understanding of Deaf culture and best practices for accessibility
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC) or equivalent, or eligibility for certification
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Passion for promoting inclusive education
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language—and vice versa—during classroom instruction, assemblies, and meetings
- Support Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in accessing curriculum and participating in school activities
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and parents to facilitate a supportive learning environment
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional interpreter standards
- Participate in team meetings and contribute insights to individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Assist in clarifying assignments and classroom instructions, providing equal access for all students
