Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational or school settings preferred
- Familiarity with various interpreting modes (e.g., simultaneous, consecutive)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with both students and educators
- Certification from RID or equivalent, or eligibility for certification
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide interpreting services for students, staff, and families to facilitate communication in classroom and school activities
- Support student learning by accurately conveying spoken information into ASL, and vice versa
- Assist in adapting materials or explanations for students as needed, working closely with teachers and specialists
- Collaborate with the educational team to create a supportive learning environment
- Participate in IEP meetings or other relevant school functions requiring interpretation
- Adhere to ethical standards of interpreting and district policies
