Qualifications & Desired Skills:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in an educational setting
- Ability to foster communication and engagement with young children
- Patience, compassion, and a collaborative approach within a classroom team
- Understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for Kindergarten-age students
- Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a dedicated interpreter for a Kindergarten student who communicates primarily through sign language
- Facilitate interactions between the student, peers, and classroom staff to support full participation in classroom activities
- Adapt interpreting tactics to meet the unique needs of a non-hearing-impaired student using sign language as a primary mode of communication
- Maintain clear, accurate interpretation of instructional content and classroom exchanges
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to provide the best possible learning environment
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards at all times
