Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Winlock, Washington
Make a difference supporting students in an academic setting as a Sign Language Interpreter. In this role, you’ll work closely with students, teachers, and staff to interpret spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL), ensuring access and equity throughout the school day.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- Previous experience interpreting in educational environments
- Familiarity with Deaf culture and best practices for accessibility
- Certification in Sign Language Interpreting (such as RID or state equivalent) preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt language for age-appropriate delivery
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities
What you’ll be doing:
- Interpreting classroom instruction, conversations, and school events from English to ASL and vice versa
- Collaborating with educators and support staff to meet students’ unique needs
- Providing interpreting services for both group instruction and individualized settings
- Advocating for inclusivity and educating others about Deaf culture when appropriate
- Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Adapting interpreting techniques to suit various subjects and learning levels
