In this contract position, you will collaborate with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program at a middle school, located near Hampshire, IL, providing essential communication access for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
Your expertise will play a vital role in facilitating greater inclusion and academic success for students, emphasizing the importance of accurate and effective communication within the school setting.
Qualifications and Experience:
- EIPA score of 3.0 or higher, with either a pending or active Professional Educator License (PEL) to interpret in school settings
- Prior experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in a school or educational context preferred
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a deep understanding of DHH student needs
- Excellent interpersonal skills and collaborative approach, working closely with teachers, support staff, students, and families
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time interpretation services for DHH students during classroom instruction, activities, and school events
- Successfully adapt interpreting methods to suit individual student needs and various educational settings
- Collaborate with educators and DHH specialists to maximize access to curriculum and peer interaction
- Support the development of self-advocacy and communication skills in students
- Maintain accurate records and comply with school district policies and confidentiality guidelines
