Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Sign Language Interpreter certification/license for Kansas
- Proven experience working in an educational or school-based setting, preferably with high school students
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiar with interpreting in classroom environments
- Strong communication skills, professionalism, and ability to collaborate with teachers and staff
- Committed to confidentiality, accurate interpretation, and supporting student independence
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide full-time sign language interpretation for a high school sophomore in general education classes
- Facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers
- Adapt interpretation methods as needed for various subjects and teaching styles
- Assist in fostering an inclusive classroom environment
- Support the student’s engagement, comprehension, and participation throughout the school day
- Maintain accurate records and follow all district and ethical interpreting standards
Position Details:
- Contract position starting as soon as possible and continuing through May 29
- Full-time schedule, 35 hours per week
- Assigned primarily to one student and focused on high school-level classes
