Sign Language Interpreter in Burlington, IL
A rewarding contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter passionate about supporting students in a high school setting. Starting in January, this part-time assignment consists of a steady schedule from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, totaling 20 hours per week through the end of the school year in May 2026. The position focuses on one-on-one interpreting for a student, ensuring meaningful access to communication and learning throughout the school day.
Candidates should have either a Professional Educator License (PEL) for interpreting or an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of at least 3.0. Prior experience providing sign language interpretation in schools or direct one-on-one settings is preferred to help facilitate seamless interactions between students and staff.
Key qualifications:
- Valid PEL certification or EIPA score of 3.0 or higher
- Demonstrated experience interpreting in educational or 1:1 environments
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to student success
- Availability for a consistent part-time schedule (11:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday)
- Ready to begin as soon as possible and commit through May 29, 2026
Primary responsibilities:
- Deliver clear, effective sign language interpretation between students and school staff
- Support communication in classroom activities, meetings, and school events
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in interpreting
- Adapt interpreting style to accommodate individual student needs
- Collaborate with educational staff to foster inclusive learning
