Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language
- Experience interpreting in educational settings, particularly K-12
- Background in teaching or facilitating ASL classes for children or adolescents
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students
- Certification or credential required for school-based interpreting (as applicable)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both students and staff
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide real-time sign language interpretation during classroom lessons, school meetings, and extracurricular activities
- Foster accessible learning environments so Deaf and hard-of-hearing students can engage fully in classroom activities
- Develop and deliver age-appropriate American Sign Language lessons
- Serve as a language model for students, demonstrating ASL fluency and supporting comprehension
- Collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, and other service providers to deliver a supportive educational experience
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of educational interpreting
