Qualifications and Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience serving as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings
- Background in teaching or tutoring ASL to students of varying ages
- Familiarity with IEPs and educational accommodations for students with hearing loss
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism within the school environment
- Professional certification (such as EIPA or RID) preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL and vice versa during classroom instructions, meetings, and school activities
- Support students in understanding lesson material, classroom discussion, and assignments
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to address student needs
- Assist in developing or adapting educational resources to support ASL users
- Foster a positive and accessible learning environment
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to individualized student plans as required
