Sign Language Interpreter in Chesapeake, VA

Make a significant impact every day by facilitating communication and inclusion for students through your Sign Language Interpreter expertise. This full-time contract role begins August 25, 2026, and continues through June 15, 2027, serving elementary-aged students in the Virginia Beach area. Working 35 hours weekly, Monday through Friday, you’ll support a 1:1 caseload—most likely with elementary students. Assignments aren’t campus-bound, allowing for flexibility in coverage should your assigned student be absent.
Key Qualifications:
- Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III required
- Strong preference for EIPA Score of 3.5+ (candidates with a 3.0+ will be considered) OR QAS Score of 3 or higher
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings strongly preferred
- Familiarity with Visaphonics is a plus, though not mandatory
- Commitment to fostering a supportive and accessible educational environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, accurate interpretation between students, teachers, and peers in classroom and school settings
- Serve 1:1 with assigned students, typically elementary-aged
- Flexibly assist at alternative locations within the district if primary student is absent
- Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality, ethics, and professionalism
- Collaborate with educational teams to ensure continuity of support and equal access
