Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting
- Valid VQAS Level III, or equivalent certification recognized by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, or EIPA Written Test plus Performance Test score of 3.5+
- Experience interpreting in K-12 schools preferred
- Understanding of the needs of deaf or hard of hearing students
- Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; interpreter training or higher education preferred
Primary Responsibilities:
- Accurately interpret classroom instruction, activities, and special events
- Facilitate communication among students, teachers, staff, and administrators
- Support students’ access to curriculum and school life
- Collaborate with educators and special education teams
- Attend IEP and staff meetings for interpreting needs
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality always
