An exciting opportunity awaits skilled Sign Language Interpreters in the Virginia Beach area. This full-time contract role spans the academic year, beginning August 24, 2026, and concluding on June 11, 2027. Resourceful interpreters are needed to provide vital classroom support and interpretation services throughout the school day and during meetings that include deaf or hard-of-hearing parents and guardians. Please note this position requires in-person work only; remote or hybrid arrangements are not available.
Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience serving as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings
- A minimum of a 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) or VQAS Level III is ideal
- Candidates with a passing EIPA written exam will also be considered if they demonstrate promise and commitment to continued professional growth
- Commitment to working onsite; virtual interpretation is not permitted for these roles
- Flexible with work hours to provide coverage for student extracurricular activities as needed
Key Responsibilities:
- Offer classroom interpreting to ensure full participation for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing
- Facilitate communication in meetings between school staff and families who use ASL or rely on interpreting services
- Provide support at extracurricular programs or events, which may occasionally extend beyond school hours
- Collaborate with educators and school staff to maximize student inclusion and access
