Qualifications:
- Hold a valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III, or
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher with a passing written test, or
- Recognized national certification such as the NIC
- Experience working with young children, ideally in an educational or school setting
- Proficiency in ASL and a strong understanding of the interpreter’s role in a classroom
- Reliable and dedicated to onsite, in-person support
Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken communication to ASL—and vice versa—during classroom instruction, activities, and daily routines
- Work closely with educators to facilitate effective, inclusive learning for a kindergarten student
- Prepare by reviewing lesson materials and collaborating with staff regarding instructional goals
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all school-related activities
- Support the student’s social and academic participation within the assigned school environment
