Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Citrus Heights, California

This onsite contract position is ideal for skilled ASL Interpreters passionate about helping individuals access inclusive education. The assignment focuses on one student—21 years old, Deaf/Hard of Hearing with Down Syndrome and additional disabilities—who communicates through a blend of verbal language, ASL, and an AAC device or smartphone, and utilizes hearing aids for partial auditory access.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience facilitating communication with Deaf/Hard of Hearing individuals
- Comfort working with students with multiple disabilities and using adaptive communication tools
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive school environment
- Ability to remain patient, flexible, and professional throughout the school day
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site ASL interpretation for academic and social interactions
- Support clear communication between the student, staff, and peers
- Assist the student in accessing educational content and participating in classroom activities
- Facilitate transitions and help implement the use of AAC devices and other communication aids
- Work collaboratively with special education staff, educators, and school therapists
