This full-time, on-site position in the Carson City, Nevada area offers the opportunity to work directly with students, educators, and families to ensure equitable access to instruction and campus life. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in promoting inclusion, participation, and positive educational experiences for students who use American Sign Language (ASL).
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately interpret using ASL and English for classroom instruction, school events, meetings, and daily student interactions.
- Facilitate clear, effective communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers.
- Collaborate closely with educational teams to support participation and inclusion.
- Adapt interpreting strategies to match individual student needs and communication styles.
- Uphold professional boundaries and maintain strict confidentiality in all assignments.
- Participate in extracurricular activities, field trips, and assemblies to provide consistent communication support.
- Maintain consistent documentation and share relevant observations with the educational team.
- Foster a respectful, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all students.
Qualifications and Desired Experience
- Holds current certification, authorization, or licensure for Sign Language Interpreting in Nevada.
- Proficient in both American Sign Language and English.
- School-based or pediatric interpreting experience preferred.
- Familiar with educational interpreting practices, confidentiality standards, and the needs of diverse learners.
- Comfortable working 1:1 with students and experienced in multidisciplinary team settings.
- Familiarity with IEPs and knowledge of Deaf culture is a plus.
- Meets all background and school-district clearance requirements.
