In this role, you’ll provide clear and unbiased ASL interpretation for classroom lessons, school meetings, extracurricular activities, and a variety of campus events. Building strong relationships with students, teachers, staff, families, and other educational partners is key as you collaborate to ensure meaningful participation in every aspect of school life.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering accurate, confidential ASL interpretation for instruction, discussions, and special events
- Facilitating two-way communication between students and their peers or educators
- Adapting interpreting strategies to fit individual student needs and classroom settings
- Participating with multidisciplinary teams to promote inclusion
- Supporting students during assemblies, field trips, and activities outside the classroom
- Following professional standards, maintaining boundaries, and upholding confidentiality at all times
- Documenting daily services and sharing insights with educational staff as needed
Qualifications:
- Current certification, licensure, or authorization to practice as a Sign Language Interpreter in Nevada
- Proficiency in ASL and English; knowledge of Deaf culture and effective communication methods
- Experience interpreting in school or pediatric settings is highly valued
- Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 1:1 educational interpreting is preferred
- Positive, collaborative attitude and strong interpersonal skills
- Must meet school background clearance and compliance requirements
