In this exciting long-term substitute assignment, bring your expertise in American Sign Language and passion for teaching to high school students eager to expand their communication skills. From January 4th through June 17th, you’ll play a central role in delivering direct instruction to ASL 1, 2, 3, and 4 classes—helping students build fluency and cultural understanding in a supportive, student-focused environment. As these courses are part of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway, a traditional teaching certificate is not required. Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and effective communication in both expressive and receptive modes
  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or ASL teacher, especially within a school or educational setting
  • Ability to develop engaging lessons and provide differentiated instruction across multiple proficiency levels
  • Meets minimum eligibility for a Conditional CTE Certificate (the district will help initiate this process)
  • Strong organizational skills and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach ASL 1, 2, 3, and 4 classes, adapting lessons to match diverse student abilities
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive classroom atmosphere
  • Encourage the exploration of Deaf culture alongside language instruction
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
  • Partner with other educators to support CTE departmental goals

If you’re excited about inspiring future communicators and making a difference in students’ lives, this position offers a rewarding opportunity. Take the next step in your career and apply today to help shape the ASL leaders of tomorrow!

Compensation for this position ranges from $30.38 to $60.38. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
