Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong communication skills
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter or teaching ASL, preferably in a school environment
- Ability to adapt interpreting and teaching approaches to suit diverse student needs
- Familiarity with IEPs and educational plans for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Knowledge of ethical and professional standards for interpreters
- Strong organizational skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
Role Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into ASL (and vice versa) for students, teachers, and staff in classroom settings and school activities
- Facilitate clear and effective communication to ensure full access to curriculum content
- Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and families to support each student’s educational goals
- Assist in the planning and delivery of ASL instruction for students
- Provide cultural insights and advocacy for Deaf awareness within the school community
- Maintain confidentiality and accurate documentation as required
