Bring your expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter to empower Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students in an educational setting located near Fort Myers, FL. With openings at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, you'll work closely with students needing 1:1 assistance and may also facilitate group interpreting as needed.
What You’ll Bring:
- Valid Sign Language Interpreter credentials with a 3.0 EIPA score or higher
- Experience in an educational environment supporting DHH students (elementary, middle, or high school preferred)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and educational interpreting
- Ability to collaborate with students, teachers, and support staff to foster an accessible learning environment
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethical standards in line with student services
- Current (or ability to obtain) fingerprint clearance through the AHCA Clearinghouse. A JLA badge will be required after clearance (allow up to 10 business days).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site interpretation for DHH students in classroom settings, school activities, and individualized education plan (IEP) meetings
- Facilitate clear and accurate communication between students, staff, and peers
- Offer interpreting support for both 1:1 and group interactions
- Work across a single assigned school with potential to serve grades K-12
- Adapt interpreting style to suit individual student needs and educational contexts
This full-time position runs through the end of the school year, offering up to 37.5 hours each week in a supportive academic environment. You'll have the opportunity to make a real difference in students’ daily experiences while advancing your skills within the field.
