Make a difference each day by providing essential communication support to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) as a committed Sign Language Interpreter on-site at a vibrant school community near Fort Myers, FL. This contract position runs from your earliest availability through late May 2027, with opportunities at the elementary, middle, and high school level—all at a single school location.
You’ll play a vital role partnering with dedicated educators and support staff, facilitating equal access to instruction and school activities by delivering high-quality interpreting services to DHH students, both 1:1 and in small groups.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Achieved a minimum 3.0 score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA)
- Previous experience working in K-12 educational environments is a plus
- Ability to support a diverse range of student ages and communication needs
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Completion of Florida fingerprinting for school settings, or eligible for transfer through AHCA Clearinghouse
- Commitment to obtaining a JLA badge (please allow up to 10 business days for processing)
Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school events for DHH students
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment
- Communicate effectively and professionally with faculty, students, and families
- Adapt interpreting methods to meet students’ individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards for educational interpreting
